Nontherapeutic

Describing something that does not contribute to the treatment or healing of a disease, illness, or injury; not designed or intended to be medically helpful. It implies an absence of beneficial effects on a patient's physical or mental health. This term is often used in medical and psychological contexts to differentiate interventions, treatments, or activities that are not intended for, or lack the capacity for, therapeutic benefit, from those that are. The emphasis is on a lack of curative or palliative properties. Sometimes a nontherapeutic activity can even be harmful if not carefully managed or monitored, especially if there is no consideration given to the patient's emotional and/or physical health.
